Connect a Custom Domain to Your Website

·3 min read

A domain name is the address people type to visit your website, like yourbusiness.com. You buy and manage domains through a domain registrar such as GoDaddy, Namecheap, or another registrar.

Tip: Already own a domain? Skip to Step 2.

1. Get a Domain

  1. Choose a registrar, search for the domain you want, and purchase it.
  2. Keep your registrar account open — you will edit two DNS records there in a minute.

2. Open the Publish Panel

  1. In Chariot, click Publish. Your site can go live right away on a free chariotai.app URL.
  2. Open Connect custom domain.
  3. Enter your domain, like yourbusiness.com.

3. Edit These DNS Records at Your Registrar

  • A record: Name @, value 75.2.60.5
  • CNAME record: Name www, value apex-loadbalancer.netlify.com
  1. Log in to your registrar and open DNS Management.
  2. Edit the A record and CNAME exactly as shown.
  3. Save your changes.

Need provider-specific help? See GoDaddy's guides for adding an A record and adding a CNAME record, or Namecheap's guides for adding an A record and adding a CNAME record.

4. Verify Your Domain

Back in Chariot, click Verify domain. Chariot will check your DNS records and tell you if anything needs to be fixed.

Once both records are correct, they will show Ready and Chariot will say You're ready to publish.

5. Launch

Click Publish. DNS and SSL can take a few hours to fully propagate, so your domain may not work instantly. If you still have issues after waiting, please contact support@chariotai.com — we're happy to help!

Making Changes After Publishing

  • Edit content: Update in chat, then Publish > Update.
  • Unpublish: Publish > Unpublish (your domain stays yours).

Custom domains require a paid Chariot plan. Hosting, SSL, and unlimited updates are included.
