Connect a custom domain to your website
•5 min read
A domain name (like yourbusiness.com) is your online street address. Buying one is as easy as shopping on Amazon—registrars such as Namecheap, GoDaddy, or Google Domains let you search, purchase, and manage domains in minutes.
Tip: Already own a domain? Great—skip to Step 2.
1. Get a Domain & Publish Your Site
- Choose a registrar and buy the name you want.
- In Chariot, click Publish so your AI‑built site is live (free .chariotai.app URL for now).
2. Open the Publish Panel
- Click the Publish button at the top right of the chat window. Then, click Add custom domain under your temporary URL.
- Enter your custom domain in the input (yourbusiness.com)
- You’ll see two DNS records—think of them as the “directions” that point your new domain to Chariot’s secure hosting (we use Netlify).
3. Add these DNS Records at Your Registrar
A @ 75.2.60.5
CNAME www apex-loadbalancer.netlify.com
- Log in to your registrar and open DNS Management.
- Add the A record and CNAME exactly as shown.
- Save. Changes can take up to 30 minutes to go live.
- Not sure how? Follow your registrar's guide on adding external DNS records.
Visitors to www.yourdomain.com will automatically redirect to yourdomain.com—no extra work needed.
4. Launch
Back in Chariot, click "Update" in the publish panel. This will update your site's settings, which may take a few minutes. Then, your site will be live on your shiny new domain!
Making changes after publishing
- Edit content: Update in chat → Publish → Update.
- Unpublish: Publish → Unpublish (your domain stays yours).
Custom domains require a paid Chariot plan—hosting, SSL, and unlimited updates included. Compare options at chariotai.com/pricing.
